the blessing
Blessings are god-breathe. During this time of the year it's hard to not see blessings showing up left and right. Tonight I got to be apart of something incredible. As I got to watch girls of all different race, color, and social status be a part of something radical.
The blessing is unconditional love. No matter what happens, I want kids to know they are the best, to love them, to hug them but mostly that no matter what- I will not stop loving them. This gives something security in life. No one wants to fail in life, but if we can get a kid to risk failure, it is more likely they will succeed. Only way they will risk failure is if they know they will never loose your love or approval. It's not just our kids that need this blessing, but we also need it too.
Tonight one of the best Area Directors in San Diego put on a party. It was called Party with a Purpose and I got to be joined in this passion, idea and movement. She got a bunch of her friends who don't have an active relationship with God who are makeup artists, hair stylists and boutique owners to donate their products, time and money for tonight. Every girl walked away with bags full of clothes, accessories, money, gift cards, food, hair cuts, facials and manicures.
It reminds me so much of my church and although we are not very big, First Sunday was incredible! It was so tight to see so many people being blessed.
It's something indescribable when you get to see girls who wouldn't be able to afford to get particular things get stuff that they deserve, specifically for them to see the love; the blessing.
In light of this time, it's remarkable to be able to help others and remind ourselves what the real story of Christmas is all about.

dedication
Everyday that I work I go thru some daily routines.
Check in, check email, go through pass down, sign into all the computer screens and monitors
then I recite the Nicene Creed
just kidding.
A few co-workers and I decided to recite every time we are at work.
The crazy thing with my job is that I never know what the day will look like or what calls I will take.
Sometimes the first call comes in at 628, other times not till 724, but when it comes it comes.
I never know the circumstance to every situation, some are very crazy, some are mild, some are just ridiculous, but at the end of each day I am thankful that I get to help others and people in need with their situation. the urgency is real.
10-19 prayer
Lord, I ask for courage
Courage to face and conquer my own fears
Courage to take me where other will not go
I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others.
Strenth of spirit to lead others.
I ask for dedication
Dedication to my job, to do it well.
Dedication to my community, to keep it safe.
Give me Lord, cocern for those who trust me
and compassion for those who need me.
Please Lord, thru all of this be at my side.

10,300 is the number of hours i have been alive since all my chemo
it's incredible and unbelievable. i never thought i'd see the day when I didn't have to go to the doctors weekly.
a year later; two weddings, three good addictions, four years, five chemo treatments later, six years living in san diego. here i am. brings me joy although I just in tears reading my hurt pain and suffering thru the emails and blog posts i had written during that time.
thank you Jesus that I am alive. May I live to be like you more daily.

dawg b.e.a.c.h
it was a standard day, sun-setting as skim boarders show off their tricks, oversized planes fly overhead, the gleam of rays fall upon this beauty we find something society does not consider beauty. a drunkard who has fallen is staggering to get up from the rocky shore as the on-duty life guard vrooms away on his 4wheeler. homeless. lost. insecure. we label him. he lives for another day, another try. the birds fly by as the dogs bark anxiously at one another, the dazed man still sets his eyes on what lies ahead, unknowing what that may be. he begins to get his feet wet literally as he soaks his unmatched shoes in the water. we see yet a thing some may consider beauty. the lonely girl opens her arms wide as if she’s praising jesus and says thank you. thank you and good night ocean beach. a nonconforming-no money-making-half decent- artist who has a diverse take on beauty, walks away getting his already dirty chucks sandy. he stares as his sunset inspiration fades washing his dreams to another day, waiting for tomorrow to make its way. to forget his sorrows and cleanse his views, s l o w l y disappearing from beauty to become disguised in his memory.

give me your sight oh Lord
O Lord, open my eyes that I may see the needs of others; open my ears that I may hear their cries; open my heart so that they need not be without succor; let me not be afraid to defend
the weak because of the anger of the strong, nor afraid to defend the poor because of the anger of the rich ... And so open my eyes and my ears that I may this coming day be able to do some work of peace for thee.

some people like it hott.
My time was well spend in Arizona recently. I ran into some of my favorite people in the world and also some people i have never met before. One of the greatest evenings was some time spent in downtown Phoenix w/
a good friend. The neighborhood is similar to that of san diego's south/ north park areas w/ wonderful ambiance.
First we ate at one of the best thai places i have still yet to match.
It was perfect. I had the chicken pad thai and he had the spicy peanut chicken curry. It was bomb in my words. The crowd outside is interesting. The bar was awesome and the service was good. The Vietnamese 33 beer was off the charts. Way to go.
then we walked a few blocks and as we entered i figure we were going to visit a friend... oh a friend indeed. Rosevelts. cute, super chill bar ever. It's a house, an old craftsman turned into a bar... with many rooms and cool soft sofas to chill and hang.
The people across from us were having the craziest conversations ever. We let them
be although the two guys were doing a horrible job trying to inform the girl they were with that she was going to hell for the things in her life or how she thought. Sometimes you intercept and sometimes you dont. That conversation was to on fire and way to drunk to intercept.
Overall what a wonderful time with such incredible people. I cannot wait to move out there but i know i have to wait a few years. I love california but something about that place make me feel joy and happy so much more than my beautiful home town of san diego. San diego, i will miss you alot.. but until then, i will use you and enjoy you more everyday !

Maybe you want it, But you def. Need it.
Recently I have been reading commentaries left and right. Mostly regarding the issues of this society and how we tend to blame others for our own issues.. and by issues, I really mean sin. But what happens when you do something bad, like having an affair with your friend’s wife? Or trying to kill a rival for your lover’s affections? Well,we don’t talk about sin because that has been dispensed with in our culture. So we look for the external cause of the behavior like alcohol or mental illness. No need to punish; when we have “treatment” that deals with these external causes.
Nonsense! What we need instead is to recover what therapy replaced: sin and individual responsibility, knowledge of right and wrong and the sense of shame that reinforces it. This might be decidedly politically incorrect, but it’s the only thing that will make “better persons” of us all. It's not true. The booze did not make us do anything, we were born with the disease.
This same disease is what deprives us from the things that are most important in our lives... which includes, yes rest. It's true. I have ran from it for so many years-- and I know me. I know when I am tired because my body tells me. Our society gets us addicted to such things that keeps us up longer, that gives us more enegry and one that is whack for sure is that we sleep so much less than we as people used to before. We push sleep and rest aside because we can count on the caffeine, the high, the rush... it's horrible.
But what about for Christians? God built rest into the very rhythm of creation. Keeping a day of rest is a priority. And believe it or not, rest serves a purpose—a divine purpose. It reminds us that God is in control.(i tend to forget) What happens when I can't finish everything that I think I NEED to get done but my body says “you have to go to sleep”? I have to depend on God.
Rest reminds us that there is Someone we can rest in. And our need for rest is a daily reminder that we are finite creatures and must trust in an infinite God.
We cannot do it alone. But the questions lay here... Are you resting? And even more so, are you trusting God?
I know my answers are not always yes. Sadly.
But sometimes the hardest things and the right thing-- they are the same. So true. Thanks Fray.
